Bogotá, November 2021. Expoconstrucción y Expodiseño 2021 arrives from November 23 to 28 in Corferias and will have a large commercial sample of the main suppliers and entrepreneurs of the sectors and subsectors of construction. In addition, a complete academic agenda and experiential content, which during six days of the fair, will allow the generation and development of new businesses.

In the building sector in Colombia, according to figures revealed by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), employment currently breaks records in the number of people employed. The figure for August 2021 exceeds by 20% the average number of jobs generated in 2020. In fact, since April 2020, the hardest moment of the pandemic, more than half a million jobs have been recovered in the sector.

The path to progress with economic reactivation programs, vaccination and immunization plans, and employment generation strategies, is the fundamental pillar in which the world moves in this year 2021 and with great expectations for 2022 of this sector.

"During the first half of 2021, clear signs of recovery have been observed. GDP registered a growth of 8.8% compared to the first half of 2020, driven mainly by the dynamics in household consumption (increase of 12.3%) and investment (13.7%)," said Sandra Forero, executive president of Camacol.

For Forero, "so far in 2021 the building activity has had a formidable recovery. In the second quarter of the year, the sectoral GDP had an increase of 16% per year, to close the first half with a solid 6%. As for the leading indicators of the sector, the commercialization of housing reached 154,230 units in January-August, which represents an increase of 34.2% compared to the same period a year ago. If the pace of sales continues, the record recorded in 2020 would be surpassed."

According to the Balance of the new housing market of September 2021 prepared by Coordenada Urbana, housing sales continue to exceed all expectations since 30% of more households bought housing in the last year, 122 thousand households accessed social housing, 85% of the regions register sales higher than those of 2020.

Additionally, housing is the country's main source of investment, contributing to its economy something equivalent to five percentage points of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), that is, $48.6 billion in the last year.

As for the projections, the housing market in the country will have half a million new homes between 2022 and 2023, while social housing will contribute 362 thousand units.

According to Coordenada Urbana, there are some expected risks that could affect the projections for next year, such as upward pressure on construction costs, fiscal resources to finance social housing policy, increases in the interest rate and the management of land, procedures and procedures.

This year Expoconstrucción and Expodiseño the main and most important commercial platform for the construction industry in Latin America. "This fair will be a special boost for the economic reactivation in which the construction sector has a leading role for the country," said Lilian Conde, project manager at Corferias.

Finally, it is important to remember that the fairgrounds have adopted strict biosecurity protocols, which are endorsed with the "Safe Guard" seal of the international company Bureau Veritas and the "Certified Check Inn" of the MINCIT, in order for visitors to have the guarantee of a biosafe fair.
